Organic Lipstick

1 tablespoon dried alkanet root
1 tablespoon beeswax
3/8 cup organic extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
9 Drops rose essential oil
You will also need a piece of muslin cloth

Grate the beeswax and melt it using a double boiler or microwave. Heat the jojoba oil and the extra virgin olive oil, for around ten minutes. Remove the oils from heat and add the alkanet root to it. Let the alkanet root infuse with the oils for a few minutes, so that the color starts mixing well with the oils. Place a piece of muslin cloth over a container and pour the mixture through it to squeeze out the entire mixture. Then, pour the strained mixture into the double boiler and add the melted beeswax to it, heating it slightly so that it mixes well. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool, and then add the nine drops of rose essential oil to it and stir well. Pour the mixture into lip pots or lip tubes and let it cool further.

2 Tablespoons Bee's Wax
3 Tablespoons Cocoa Butter
3 Tablespoons Shea Butter

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Vitamin E
1 Tablespoon Honey Powder
2 Tablespoons Activated Charcoal Powder
3 Tablespoons Rhassoul Clay

Optional: Herbal Extracts, Essential Oils (depending on what you're using the salve for), dried flowers...

8 1/2 ounce clear jars

Black Salve is touted to do everything these days.

What it does best is absorb toxins. The common use
for it is to put a glob of it on a bee sting, slivers
or a cut. It sucks out the poisons!
No home should be without it.

First Step:

Put Bees wax, cocoa butter and Shea butter in a small
pot and heat. You want to keep it at 180 degree for at
least 15 minutes.
This is easier than it sounds. Just heat it on medium
high until it is melted. Turn off the burner and let
it sit. It should still be over 180 in 15 minutes. :)

Second Step:

Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until well

Third Step:

Feel free to add any relevant herbal extracts to the
formula just before you spoon it in. You want to make
sure it is very cooled off before adding any extracts,
essential oils, or fragrance.

Fourth Step:

Once it is smooth, spoon into 1/2 ounce jars.

Easy Lotion Bars

4 ounces mango or shea butter
4 ounces beesweax, yellow or white
5 ounces liquid oil (jojoba or grapeseed are both excellent)
2 teaspoons of essential oil or fragrance oil

This lotion bar does not use cocoa butter so you can use any fragrance or essential oil that your heart desires and not have a chocolate over-smell.

Melt the beeswax in a separate container and the butter/oil in another container. Add together, mix well, stir in FO/EO and pour into containers. Mixture will harden in approximately 1-2 hours. The cooler the mixture is upon pouring it, the less 'divets' you'll get in the bar (that sunken spot at the top of the bar).

Kaolin Clay

Fluffy white kaolin clay, also known as white clay which is one of the purest forms of clay. This is used in many procedures:

Soap making - it will add a soft slippery feel to your soap bar soaps, excellent in products used for shaving (men and women)

Face masks are easy to produce at home by adding a few drops of essential oil for your skin type and mixing with distilled water until it is creamy yet holds together.

Mineral Makeup may contain kaolin clay for it's adhesion and sensitive skin properties.

Makeup - for you handmade makeup lovers this is a must have in those powder foundations. Oily skin loves this, it will absorb 1 1/2 times its weight.

Eyeshadows - this is great to add to your mattes to give it a better slip, tone down your oxides and you can really spread your mica to go a very long way.

Face Mask - I highly recommend using only purified water to moisten your clay, you only need a small amount, try 2 teaspoons of clay, add a bit of purified water just until it is a nice paste consistency, add skin safe aromatherapy essential oil of your choice ( please study before using an essential oil, lavender is good for all skin types), add a bit of infused rose water in place of purified water. This should only be used once a week, up to 2x a week on oily skin complexions.

Other uses: Wash your car using Kaolin Clay
Kaolin Clay pulls out gently grit, grime, road tar, bugs and more. It is non abrasive and helps you to get rid of bumbs and rough spots before you do the waxing. Have you ever looked at a wax applicator or a buffing pad after applying wax? If it is dirt you see, you are actually waxing over dirt. This is why high end body shops do use Kaolin Clay. You will see and feel the difference. It is also used in tooth paste as well as an ingredient pest patrol of fruits.

Great New Tip

Unrefined African Shea Butter:

When used nightly (sparingly) on lash line, helps promote longer lusher lashes. Wash before applying mascara.

Mango Body Butter

Makes approx. 8 ozs.

2 ozs cocoa butter (weighed)
2 ozs natural shea butter
2 ozs mango butter (weighed)
1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
3 teaspoons apricot kernel oil
1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
Mango fragrance oil (or any fragrance oil)
1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E. (optional, as a preservative)

Add all the butter ingredients to a pan or double boiler on low until all the ingredients have liquefied. Continue to heat on low for another 20 minutes (do not boil). The continued heating will help prevent the butters from becoming grainy once solid. Add additional oils and let set to cool for a few hours. Before the mixture sets, stir or even whip, to incorporate. Spoon into jars or tins and label.

Note: This is a firmer body butter.
If you prefer a softer butter, the
consistency can be adjusted
by decreasing the amount of
cocoa butter. Or just adding a little more aloe gel.

Apricot Kernel Body Scrub

2 oz citrus blend or orange blossom floral water
1.5 oz ground apricot kernel
1 oz melt and pour glycerine soap
1 oz aloe vera gel
1 oz rice bran oil (or other light weight oil suitable for use on the face)
Orange and Sandalwood Essential oils

1) In a double boiler melt the soap. 2) Once thoroughly melted, add the aloe vera gel and safflower oil. 3) Remove from heat and stir in the floral water, a dropper of sandalwood oil and two droppers of orange essential oil. 4) Mix thoroughly and then stir in the ground apricot kernel. 5) Stiring frequently, allow the mixture to cool. Add more essential oil and floral water until the desired scent and consistency is achieved. Typically the scrub is slightly more thin than creamy peanut butter. 6) Scrape the scrub into glass containers and seal for a day or two. The ingredients will blend more thoroughly and fragrance will stablilize into a nutty, woody and vanilla scent. 7) Instructions for use: place a small dab in the palm of your hand, add water and rub into a lathery paste. Massage the lather onto face or other areas and rinse with warm water. The gentle glycerine soap cleanses, the aloe heals, safflower oil moisturizes and apricot kernel exfoliates, leaving the skin restored after each use.

Soft and Creamy Unrefined Shea Butter. Excellent for healing and moisturizing. This is Unrefined and therefore still has all its medicinal properties. It has a long shelf life of 12 to 24 months if stored properly in a container in a cool place.

What can Shea Butter do for you?

Shea butter has been used for centuries in Africa. It is used to moisturize and protect the skin from sun, wind, heat and salt water. It is known as the most effective skin moisturizer and conditioner because of its high content of non-saponifiable fats including vitamin F. It is an excellent skin moistener and is used for aging skin, eczema and all forms of massage. It is also used to relax the muscles and to treat sprains wounds and colds. The unique formula of Shea butter also helps prevent and protect dry skin providing temporal relief from irritation, dryness and wind burned skin.

Shea butter can be used as a hair dressing cream to moisturize a dry scalp and stimulate hair growth. As a hair cream, it helps to hold the hairstyle and lightly relax curls.

Fair Trade Shea butter

The manufacturer of our shea butter pays much higher prices for our Shea butter by organizing the women in the Northern Region of Ghative societies with interest free loans, credit facilities, training in packaging, labeling and quality control services therefore a higher price for their quality processed Shea butter.

When you buy our Fair Trade Shea butter, you are enabling the Tamale and Wa women that process our Shea butter to live with dignity and invest in their families, communities and the environment.

Higher Living Standards: Higher living standards, thriving communities in the Northern Region of Ghana and a more sustainable farming practices.

A fair price: The farmers and Shea butter producers received a fair price for their product. The Fair Trade price means that farmers and producers can feed their families and that their children can go to school instead of working in the fields.

Quality products: By receiving quality control training and a fair price, Fair Trade Shea butter producers can avoid cost-cutting practices that sacrifice the quality of the Shea butter we import. The Fair Trade producers' traditional artisan processing methods result in exceptional Shea butter products we import.

Bath Bags

Cut out some 9-inch diameter circles of muslin and place 2 tablespoons of roughly torn fresh herbs in the middle of each one. Dried herbs are just as successful. Gather the edges of the circle together and make into a small bundle, holding it in place with an elastic band. Then attach ribbons around the bundle to cover the elastic band, making a long enough loop to hang it from the taps so it will dangle in the water. A set of bath bags, with different colored ribbons to denote different herbs or mixtures of herbs, could be put together with a collection of other bath-time treats. Do write clear instructions on a label so they don't get mistaken for bouquet garni and put in a stew!

Oatmeal can be added to the contents of the bath bags. Use equal quantities of herbs and oatmeal, as it helps to soften the skin.
